Betty paints a variety of subjects from everyday sceneries, architecture, landscape to flowers. Her reference materials are from her own personal collection of photos taken whenever she spotted something that appeals to her artistic taste. “Painting for me is the most expressive thing I can do. I feel I am putting down a part of myself on paper. I love the luminosity and freedom of watercolour. Using a lot of water to paint gives me a good sense of flow and harmony, the feeling that helps to enhance and stimulate my creativity.” Betty made her debut at the Bayview Watercolour Society Juried Show in July 2004, winning an Honourable Mention (Farmhouse). “It was an encouraging start for a self learner like me,” she said. In 2005, she held her first solo show at the Dufferin Clark Library in Vaughan, Ontario. She won 2nd place in the Bayview Watercolour Society Spring Juried Show the same year (Lonely Tulip). She was invited to participate in the first Heinztman House Invitational Art Show in April 2006 together with some 50 other renowned local artists. She is also a member of the 25 year old Toronto Watercolour Society.
